Surviving with a Child as Cannon Fodder in a NovelChapter 10

Chapter 10

Big Dragon had only just regained the ability to walk. Running or jumping was still impossible for now, and flying was completely out of the question. But because of his enormous size, he could still travel very quickly.

Su Xing and Dragon Cub sat steadily on Big Dragon’s back. Su Xing, who had remained calm through almost everything, was actually a little excited now. He never would have imagined that in this lifetime, he would get the chance to ride a tyrannosaurus!

It was not that Su Xing had demanded a ride. Big Dragon had found Su Xing and Dragon Cub far too slow and had taken the initiative to let them climb on. In Big Dragon’s mind, there was nothing strange about carrying his mate and cub.

Su Xing had never explained the exact nature of his relationship with Big Dragon. Besides, nominally speaking he really was Big Dragon’s mate, so there was no need to deny it.

Only a few days after the family of three left, the wind and sand erased every trace of their former presence. So when a small search team landed there, they found no sign that anyone had survived in the area.

If the team had searched carefully by hand, it would not have been difficult to uncover evidence that the family had lived there. But they relied too heavily on advanced technology and therefore missed the clues perfectly.

Interstellar technology truly was advanced. Whether a target was dead or alive, once the equipment was activated, living creatures within several kilometers had nowhere to hide.

The small team did search very seriously. They not only surveyed this area, but also examined every viable landing point on the planet.

Unfortunately, by pure coincidence, Su Xing’s family was no longer within the range they searched. In the end, the team returned empty-handed. Fate could sometimes be impossibly unpredictable.

Because the team had limited manpower, they could not inspect an entire planet comprehensively. Moreover, when Feidinan drew up the search plan, he had deliberately restricted how far they would search into uninhabited regions.

He had always believed that among Su Xing’s family of three, only tiny Dragon Cub was physically normal. If Dragon Cub were still alive, Feidinan did not think the child would have wandered far from both parents.

In fact, that assumption was correct. If Su Xing’s awakening had failed and Dragon Cub had encountered no other accident, the search team might truly have been able to bring the surviving cub back. But reality was reality.

By the time Su Chen received another report that nothing had been found, he barely felt disappointment anymore. He had already fallen into despair by the time he left the Central Planet. Their best search window had been within the first ten days.

More than a month had already passed. Any remaining hope was almost extravagant. He did not believe their enemies would have given Dragon Cub an entire month to survive. He had only continued because he wanted a miracle to happen.

“Call your people back.” At last, he stopped insisting. He knew that if this continued, it would seriously affect Feidinan’s future development. Pirates needed to make a living too.

“Have you decided?” Feidinan asked. If Su Chen refused to give up, he would order his men to keep searching. That had been the promise he made at the beginning, and he intended to keep it.
