Chapter 1

Synopsis:

[Cluelessly flirtatious, adorably ditzy little assistant who becomes everyone’s crush x outwardly cold but secretly shameless, scheming big-shot and jealous top]

Young Master Xie, the elegant young son of Grand Tutor Xie’s family in the capital, accidentally drowned. He had thought death was certain, but when he opened his eyes again, he discovered that he had transmigrated into an unfamiliar era.

His new identity was that of a variety-show assistant, and in a few days, a dating reality show would begin filming.

To avoid exposing the fact that he was actually an ancient man, Xie Heting decided to educate himself.

Books held treasures beyond measure.

He searched through the original owner’s bookshelf, carefully selected several books, and studied them diligently.

After shutting himself away for three days, Xie Heting was brimming with confidence.

Excellent. He now knew exactly how to be a qualified modern person!

—

Unable to figure out how to use the walkie-talkie no matter how he turned it over, he tugged gently on the hem of the person beside him and asked softly,

“Older brother, I don’t know how to use this. Could you help me?”

Shen Ji, the dignified and composed Best Actor with his abstinent aura, turned red from that one “older brother.”

—

When he spotted a strangely shaped “qin,” Xie Heting, who loved musical instruments as dearly as his own life, hesitantly asked,

“Younger brother, your instrument is very beautiful. May I touch it?”

Shi Jixing, the rebellious rising star of the music industry, stammered as he handed over the precious guitar he normally refused to let anyone touch.

“Y-You can.”

—

Although what the books taught him worked extremely well, there were always exceptions.

For example, neither “older brother” nor “younger brother” worked on Jin Huaifeng, the handsome, wealthy man with a mysterious background.

Little Xie returned home dejected and, after reflecting painfully on his mistakes, read The Heartthrob’s Guide to High-EQ Communication several more times from cover to cover.

There was nothing wrong with it!

Then why did Jin Huaifeng corner him against a wall and, with a dark expression, demand to know exactly how many “good older brothers” he had?

[Important Notes]

1. This is not a story where readers have to guess the endgame pairing. Several guests show extremely obvious attraction toward the protagonist, but Jin Huaifeng is the main love interest. Neither lead has prior sexual experience. Happy ending.

2. There are many livestream comments and several side couples, including Zhou Yanrong x Wen Zhou and Mu Ying x Mu Shenyu. There are also some light ensemble-cast elements.

3. This takes place in the same fictional universe as The Abandoned Son of a Wealthy Family. There are no real-life models for the characters. Everything is fictional, so please do not project real people onto them.

4. The writing is elementary-school level and logic is dead. If you do not like it, feel free to drop the story, but please do not yell at me, because you will only be kicking cotton!

5. Updates are at nine every morning. If something comes up, I will give advance notice. I am obsessed with fixing typos, so if the story shows an update outside the regular update time, I am probably correcting mistakes.

The variety-show setup references Single’s Inferno, Heart Fluttering Again, Almost-Mature Lovers, Transit Love, His Man, Follow Your Instinct, and Clever Love, with additional original settings.

Theme: Knowledge changes destiny!

When Xie Heting woke up, he discovered that he was soaking inside a white porcelain bathtub.

Shivering, he climbed out of the water, found a large piece of cloth and wrapped it around himself. Still dazed, he stumbled into what looked like a bedroom and lay there for a while before his head finally cleared.

As he stared at the strange room, Young Master Xie, normally cheerful and content with whatever fate brought him, felt like crying without tears. His pale little face scrunched up, bitterness filling both his mouth and his heart.

Years ago, he had heard storytellers say that people blessed with extraordinary fortune could, after dying, possess the bodies of others who had only just died.

This young man named Xie Heting seemed to have died only recently.

Unexpectedly, Xie Heting himself had benefited from it.

Unfortunately, the memories left behind by the body’s original owner were pitifully scarce. Beyond his name, the number of people in his family, his occupation, and the identities of a few friends, everything else existed only in scattered fragments.

Xie Heting gazed blankly around him.

Everything about this place was so unfamiliar that he had no idea what to do with himself.

“Beep, beep, beep, beep—”

A piercing noise suddenly rang out.

Xie Heting jolted in fright. His reddened eyes darted helplessly around the room until, after quite some time, he finally found the source of the noise.

It was a flat little rectangular box.

It kept vibrating, and something green on its surface was bouncing up and down.

Xie Heting swallowed nervously. He carefully shuffled over to the glass tea table and poked the object with a chopstick.

The box continued vibrating on its own.

Nothing else happened.

“Could it merely be an inanimate object?” Xie Heting muttered.

Just as he was debating whether he should pick it up, the box that had been beeping incessantly suddenly went silent.

Xie Heting exhaled in relief.

When he touched his forehead, he found it covered in sweat.

Before his heart could properly settle—

“Ding-dong—ding-dong—”

Even the enormous black door was making noise!

Just as Xie Heting felt his heart leap into his throat, an unfamiliar male voice shouted anxiously from outside.

“Xie Heting, are you home? It’s me, Jiang Ye!”

He remembered someone named Jiang Ye.

Jiang Ye was one of the original owner’s very few friends.

Xie Heting got up to open the door. Unfortunately, the locking mechanism here was extremely strange, and he struggled for quite a while before finally getting it open.

The instant the door opened a crack, a hooded figure outside slipped inside.

“What’s going on? You’re home, so why didn’t you answer your phone? If the paparazzi photographed me here, Sister Xia would skin me alive!”

A phone?

Was he talking about that little box-demon that had been making noises by itself?

From Jiang Ye’s words, it seemed that the object could be used to contact other people.

Without revealing anything, Xie Heting quietly committed the word to memory.

Jiang Ye had been about to continue complaining when he finally noticed Xie Heting’s appearance. His voice abruptly stopped as his gaze swept over him from head to toe.

“What happened to you? Are you sick?”

The young man before him had shoulder-length curls plastered messily across his face. Heavy black-framed glasses rested on his nose, and an entire blanket was wrapped around his body.

Both his hair and clothes were dripping water.

He looked as though someone had just fished him out of a pond.

“Nothing is wrong.”

Xie Heting loosened the blanket and carefully straightened his hair and clothes before asking,

“For what matter have you come?”

Jiang Ye burst out laughing at his tone.

“Whoa. Why are you talking like some ancient scholar? What, did a ghost possess you?”
