But she soon calmed down. How could she not have considered the possibility of failure? Even if she ended up in prison, she still had a fallback plan.

Jiang Ruoqing sat miserably on the ground. Where no one else could see, the corner of her mouth curved into a strange smile.

While everyone’s attention was focused on Bai Qingyu,

none of them knew that a gun was aimed in the direction of the dark alley.

This area was far from the city center. There were few pedestrians on the streets, and the summer night breeze was unusually cool. A car whose model could not be identified blended into the moonlight.

A bodyguard sat respectfully in the front passenger seat. A black handgun protruded from the rear window, held by a hand with distinct knuckles and long, powerful fingers.

The man slowly drew the gun back, his fingertips resting against the cool backrest of the rear seat. His eyes were deep and unreadable.

He had only left the city temporarily today, yet unexpectedly stumbled across such an entertaining scene.

At first, it was the young man surrounded by the group who had caught his attention. The young man had a fierce temperament and would rather die than submit. He was knocked down again and again, yet staggered back to his feet each time, like wild grass refusing to bow even in a violent gale.

That sparked a trace of interest in him. He wanted to see how long such astonishing resilience could last.

It was only after the young man exhausted his final trace of strength, collapsed, and could no longer resist that the man leisurely drew his gun.

After all, it would be a pity for an S-class Omega to die just like that.

Yet one second before he was about to pull the trigger, a figure shot into the alley like a bolt of lightning.

Even from a distance, the man could clearly see the newcomer’s tall, slender figure, perfect proportions, and clean, decisive movements. Even someone as accustomed to life and death as he was felt his heart stir.

Before long, the entire group of attackers had been beaten to the ground. With combat skills like that, it was hard to tell at a glance whether this person was an Omega or an Alpha.

The tide had turned, and the man’s gaze locked firmly on that figure, unable to move away.

Now he even wanted to get out of the car and see what the person looked like up close. Playing with the gun in his hand, the man thought he must be going insane.

The luxury car was frighteningly quiet, with only violently surging emotions flowing soundlessly through the air.

Only after a long while did a low voice finally sound.

“Let’s go.”

—————

Although Jiang Yan and Bai Qingyu were the only two S-class Omegas in this graduating class at Elegance, they had never been particularly close.

On top of that, Bai Qingyu normally relied on his beauty and high classification to do nothing, while behaving spoiled, overbearing, arrogant, and domineering.

Other than the teachers, most people in the Alliance disliked him. Yet now, not only had he escaped a deadly situation, he had also dealt with Jiang Ruoqing single-handedly.

Even Jiang Yan found it somewhat unbelievable. But no matter what, Bai Qingyu had saved him.

Seeing Bai Qingyu approach, Jiang Yan had just been about to thank him when Bai Qingyu suddenly stopped and sharply looked in one direction.

His reaction made Jiang Yan tense as well. Only when Bai Qingyu turned back did he ask weakly, “What is it?”

“Someone was here just now.”

“What?”

Jiang Yan looked surprised and swept his gaze around the outside of the alley.

“Could it have been someone passing by?”

“No,” Bai Qingyu denied.

“That person stayed for a long time.”

As a top assassin, Bai Qingyu was exceptionally sensitive to danger. Once he calmed down, he instantly noticed the familiar sensation of being watched and the killing intent from earlier.

Hearing that made cold sweat break out all over Jiang Yan. Just now, all of his attention had been fixed on Jiang Ruoqing.

He had not noticed anyone else around them at all. If that person had witnessed everything yet made no attempt to stop it, instead simply watching the show before leaving, then their intentions were obvious enough.

A chill rushed up from the soles of his feet, leaving him deeply unsettled.

“Are your injuries serious?” Bai Qingyu asked in a slightly gentler tone when he saw how pale Jiang Yan had become.

Jiang Yan shook his head. “They’re only surface wounds. Thank you for saving me. If it weren’t for you, they probably would’ve already ruined my face.”

At that point, Jiang Yan could not stop himself from crying again. He had grown up at Elegance and had never experienced much of the ugliness of the outside world. The slightest real setback was enough to break through his psychological defenses.

At that moment, Director Chen arrived with a group of people.

“How are you two?”

“Director!”

The moment Jiang Yan saw Director Chen, he threw himself toward her as though he had found his own mother.

“Jiang Ruoqing almost beat me to death.” The moment he finished, he burst into loud sobs.

Director Chen repeatedly comforted him. “Don’t worry. I absolutely won’t let her off.”

Then she looked steadily at Bai Qingyu.

“I called an ambulance. Let them take you both to the hospital for an examination.”

Bai Qingyu met the gaze of Elegance’s chief director. Her stern face carried a hint of warmth. Anyone looking at her would think she was a strict but kind elder.

Even so, he still caught the almost imperceptible scrutiny in her eyes.

Jiang Ruoqing and the others were arrested by law enforcement officers. A few of them, unwilling to accept the outcome, begged Director Chen for mercy, hoping she would remember their past relationship.

Director Chen remained unmoved. “You should have considered the consequences before you acted. I’m very disappointed in you.”

She had spent so many years at Elegance. What kind of student had she not seen? Scheming, calculating, outwardly kind while actually cruel and hypocritical.

She never favored one side and always upheld fairness. If a few pleas for mercy were enough to move her, she could never have reached the position of chief director of Elegance.

If Jiang Ruoqing had truly managed to eliminate Bai Qingyu and Jiang Yan, her two competitors, without leaving a single flaw behind, then even Director Chen would have had to admit she had skill.

In this world where power stood above all else, everyone would do whatever it took to climb upward for their own interests. Bai Qingyu was the person she had misjudged.

Director Chen adjusted her glasses and looked deeply at the young man standing not far away.

As Jiang Ruoqing was escorted into the vehicle, she glared venomously at the two of them in the distance.

“Bai Qingyu, Jiang Yan, just wait. I’ll be out very soon. When I am, I’ll definitely kill both of you.”

Her somewhat pretty eyes were already completely consumed by hatred.

Once Bai Qingyu saw that the surroundings were finally safe, his will could no longer hold out. There were no obvious injuries on his body,

but this body had first been drugged and then forced through a prolonged fight. Its energy had long since been exhausted.

The hand braced against the car door began to tremble faintly. His face remained calm and composed, showing no sign of pain.

But who knew that in truth, he had been suffering an episode from the moment he woke up?

Jiang Yan was cooperating with the law enforcement officers and recounting what had happened when he noticed that Bai Qingyu’s face had gone pale.

He had just been about to say something when Bai Qingyu collapsed. Jiang Yan reacted quickly enough to catch him.

“Hey.”

“Bai Qingyu, what’s wrong? Don’t scare me!”

His face filled with panic, Jiang Yan helped the medical staff get him into the ambulance.

Even after Bai Qingyu was taken into the emergency room, Jiang Yan still had not recovered from the shock. If something truly happened to Bai Qingyu, he would feel guilty for the rest of his life.

Only after the emergency-room doctor told him that Bai Qingyu was out of danger did Jiang Yan go have his own injuries treated.

The doctor placed them in the same hospital room, which suited Jiang Yan perfectly because he had a lot he wanted to say to Bai Qingyu.

But looking at Bai Qingyu’s exhausted expression, he could only obediently lie down on his own bed and go to sleep as well.
