His eyelashes were not especially thick, but they were very long, each clearly defined. Seen from above, they cast faint shadows across his face and made him look pitifully vulnerable.
He lay on his side, nestled in the soft bedding, with a small portion of his upper body exposed.
His shoulder blades were slender and delicate, like a butterfly newly emerged from its cocoon, its scaled wings still wet and so fragile that the lightest pinch could break them.
A lingering sweetness remained in the air. Shao Siyan distinguished it carefully. It smelled like tiramisu.
He was not entirely certain.
He became irritated easily, and whenever he did, he needed something sweet. An entire refrigerator in his home was dedicated to desserts and remained stocked throughout the year. His pastry chefs sent him different creations every day to ensure that every dessert was perfectly fresh.
But they had not made tiramisu yesterday.
Shao Siyan had not eaten breakfast because he had awakened in an irritable mood. Now the sweet aroma stirred his appetite. He put on a robe, got out of bed, and went to search the kitchen.
He looked everywhere but could not find any.
Slightly annoyed, Shao Siyan closed the refrigerator, then opened it and looked again.
How could there be none?
His five senses were as exceptional as his memory. He could easily distinguish the different scents in the air and the individual flavors in food.
That made his life all the more irritating.
An unpleasant smell in the air displeased him, while an undesirable flavor in his food made him even more agitated.
Could it have been from the day before yesterday?
He seemed to remember that some had been delivered then.
But how could the aroma of a dessert from two days ago still linger now?
The air purifiers in his home ran year-round precisely to prevent such situations.
Mixed, disorderly odors irritated him.
The refrigerator was filled with a dazzling assortment of the freshest desserts. In color, fragrance, flavor, and ingredients, every one of them was refined and delicious.
Most people in his position could have chosen any one of them and satisfied their craving for sweets.
But Shao Siyan wanted tiramisu.
He wanted it now.
And because his appetite had been aroused without being promptly satisfied, he grew even more irritable.
He intended to call someone and order them to make and deliver it as quickly as possible, so he returned to the bedroom. The person on the bed was already awake, his eyes open and fixed steadily on him.
Suppressing his craving for dessert, Shao Siyan sneered and sat at the edge of the bed. “Awake, Chi Junyan?”
The voice speaking his name was lazy and sensual, like a feather brushing the inside of his ear. In an instant, Chi Junyan recalled everything that had just happened and gave an uncontrollable hum.
