Shao Siyan sneered. “Why are you pretending?”

Shao Siyan glanced up to confirm their location, then said coolly, “I suggest you behave yourself. Once we reach the hospital, you can freeload a full physical examination, but that’s as far as this goes.”

The man had all four limbs and normal reactions. He was merely pale and emaciated, most likely malnourished from hunger. There could not be anything seriously wrong with him.

He felt aggrieved, but he could not explain himself.

His fingers had grown stiff and sore from clutching the cushion for so long. He slowly relaxed them, then closed his eyes so that he would not have to look at Shao Siyan.

Taking his silence for an admission, Shao Siyan scoffed inwardly. Just as I thought.

Yet he felt none of the satisfaction of having correctly read another person. Instead, his agitation intensified.

His heartbeat quickened slightly, and his gaze shifted restlessly. Why did this journey feel so long? Without warning, he kicked the partition. The noise startled Chi Junyan, who had been slowly putting his mental world in order.

The partition lowered, and the driver greeted him with a smile. “What do you need, President Shao?”

Shao Siyan’s breathing had grown somewhat rough, and his eyes were so red they looked ready to bleed. He glared at the driver. “Why aren’t we there yet? How are you driving? Does such a short distance take several hours?”

The driver was not yet accustomed to his boss’s sudden outbursts and hurried to explain. “We’ll be there in five minutes.”

He glanced meaningfully in the rearview mirror at Chi Junyan, who was huddled motionlessly beside the car door.

It was him!

Shao Siyan’s blade-sharp gaze stabbed deeply into Chi Junyan.

It was all because of him that Shao Siyan was still being delayed on the road.

Then he realized that the other man seemed to be in an even more abnormal state than he was.

The cool, faintly irritable expression from moments ago had transformed into wild rage in the blink of an eye. It was as if a lion in rut were trapped inside his body, pacing restlessly and fighting to break out of its cage.

The intensity of his emotions seemed ready to tear free of his body and pounce on everyone around him.

He was like a sentinel Alpha on the verge of losing control.

As a guide Omega, Chi Junyan almost instinctively extended mental tendrils in an attempt to soothe him.

The tiny amount of mental power he had just accumulated was pitifully small. His tendrils were thin and soft, like sparse weeds on a wasteland scorched by wildfire.

Only when those tendrils touched the other man’s mind did Chi Junyan realize what he was doing.

The man before him was not a sentinel Alpha but an ordinary person with no unusual qualities whatsoever. He did not possess enhanced perception, and his current condition could not have been caused by an emotional rampage.

In other words, he did not need Chi Junyan.

Nor could Chi Junyan resolve his problem by channeling mental power through him.

He would have to ease the situation some other way.

Belatedly preparing to withdraw his mental tendrils, Chi Junyan found that a guide’s instincts made them circle Shao Siyan’s head several times before returning.
