He raised the phone again. “Forget it.” Then he hung up.

Amid the chaos, Doctor Liu looked up and saw the big boss watching with a heavy gaze. His heart trembled. Remembering that a doctor’s fundamental duty was to save lives, he nevertheless conscientiously invited Shao Siyan aside. “President Shao, apart from malnutrition, this gentleman has a stomach ulcer and some…old injuries that were never properly treated.”

He gave the owner of the hospital’s parent company a complicated look. Recalling fragments of gossip he had overheard at the nurses’ station during his shift, he offered a tactful warning. “The human body is more complex than the most sophisticated machine. An injury cannot always be restored to its original state simply because it has been treated.”

Shao Siyan gave a noncommittal hum and stared at him. “You think I did it?”

The late-autumn weather was pleasantly cool, yet Doctor Liu wanted to take out a handkerchief and wipe his sweat.

His tongue tangled. “I—I certainly didn’t mean that.”

Shao Siyan sneered. Considering both his own condition and that of the man on the bed, he understood that the misunderstanding was inevitable.

He had no intention of explaining and merely issued an order. “Cure him.”

Although the man’s origins were unknown and his purpose hardly innocent, the inexplicable sense of relief Shao Siyan had felt whenever he approached him inspired a measure of goodwill.

In any case, the Shao family had more than enough money to cover a stranger’s medical bills.

After stepping out of the ward, he turned and instructed, “Don’t let him use his own card.”

If Chi Junyan left no personal information behind, Shao Siyan would not know his identity. Once he walked out of this hospital, it would probably be difficult for them to have anything more to do with each other.

Shao Siyan was in a good mood. Yet the moment he left the ward area, a trace of irritation rose in his heart.

His brows drew together again, and he clicked his tongue.

He had spent years finding everything he looked at irritating. Except when the feeling became unusually severe, it did not interfere with his life.

But today, everything felt wrong.

After returning home and showering, Shao Siyan came out drying his hair and found his phone chiming repeatedly.

He initially intended to ignore it, but the phone would not stop.

“You had better have something important to report.”

Casually tossing the towel aside, he picked up his phone.

Secretary Zhuang’s messages formed an extremely long stream.

At a glance, Shao Siyan saw the last one: [President Shao, these are the profiles of celebrities who have recently become popular. Please review them.]

Shao Siyan: …What was this?

At first, Shao Siyan had thought he owed his success to being born into the right family. Now he was beginning to suspect it was because everyone else’s brains simply did not work very well.

Without another word, he blocked Secretary Zhuang.
