Doctor Bai asked again, “What about Baby? Does anything hurt?”

He made a few more gestures, such as gently rubbing Su Li’s stomach, doing his best to make sure the child understood what he was asking.

Su Li had no choice but to shake his head.

Because his consciousness had been clouded before, he had chosen to observe this strange unfamiliar world first in order to avoid exposing himself, rarely responding to the people around him. He had not expected one unintentional action yesterday to give them hope instead. His body was also not truly so poor that it required the extreme level of care his family gave him. Returning to the physical condition of a normal child was only a matter of time.

Su Li thought that perhaps he would need to learn how to live here as a “human” in the future, if only to repay the kindness of the parents he had received in this life.

Seeing the child respond, Doctor Bai looked somewhat surprised and asked several more questions.

Su Li answered simple questions. Whenever a question was more complicated, he pretended not to understand. He had little experience with human children, so he did his best to make his behavior match that of a child his age.

After finishing the questions, Doctor Bai said to Dad Su, “Su Li’s situation is still rather unusual, but there are obvious signs of improvement now, and no other negative reactions have appeared.”

Dad Su asked excitedly, “Then will he recover?”

“It’s too early to say, but judging from his current condition, there is a strong possibility of improvement.” Doctor Bai smiled gently and looked at Su Li with great kindness. “This is a good thing. Perhaps Su Li truly can recover.”

The examination did not take long. Doctor Bai soon went elsewhere with Dad Su for a more detailed discussion. After coaxing his younger brother to sleep at noon, Su Yu had gone into his room to study, announcing that he had to shut himself away to prepare for exams and was not to be disturbed. Dad Su therefore temporarily left Su Li in the care of another “person” in the house.

Su Li watched his father and Doctor Bai move away to talk, apparently discussing his food and medication. Only then did he turn his attention to the “person” Dad Su had left behind. He retained fragments of memory from before he awakened. He remembered that whenever Dad Su was at work and Su Yu was not home, this “person” took over their duties. The family called it the nanny.

Su Li sat with it for a while, then used spiritual power to push a foam ball on the floor. It quickly rolled beneath the sofa. The nanny appeared to notice and, seeing the ball roll away, followed its direction and retrieved it.

Whenever he used spiritual power, Su Li clearly felt a heavy burden on his body. He had felt it from the moment he first began using his power, but because he had been unusually energetic just after awakening yesterday, he had not paid much attention to the problem…

His meridians were blocked. It was probably another issue with his constitution.

Su Li calmed himself and continued practicing by using spiritual power to push the foam ball.

Each time, the “nanny” dutifully followed its instructions and retrieved it.

The “nanny” looked human, but its movements were rigid and repetitive.

Their home contained many strange things, and his family had never used spiritual power in front of him. Su Li therefore classified this object alongside the liquid-crystal television as another mysterious invention. It resembled a human, yet also reminded him somewhat of the puppets human cultivators had once controlled.

Only he and the nanny remained in the living room. Su Li’s heart stirred slightly. Everyone else was gone at the moment…

He lowered his head and looked at his own legs. If he controlled his spiritual power more carefully, perhaps he could do it.

Outside, the wind demon silently landed on the balcony. He stood close against the wall and glanced from the corner of his eye at the scene inside the living room.

The exquisitely adorable child sat on the rug, while a puppet stood not far away. Su Qingfeng’s spell had been placed on that puppet. The instant the wind demon approached, he would be completely exposed.

The Su family’s formation was not easy to penetrate. After his intrusion had been discovered the previous night, the defenses had been strengthened considerably. Just now, he had merely tried to approach the house to see what was happening and had nearly been noticed by Su Qingfeng before getting close. Only because he was a wind demon had he managed to find the tiniest gap and slip in.

Everything had happened too suddenly the night before, and he had fled in a hurry. Only after returning and carefully thinking through the sequence of events did he identify the key detail. The shard had emitted that strange light last night, and because he had been so close, he had clearly seen that the change occurred only when the Su family’s child touched it.

Perhaps his guess had been correct after all. The opportunity for his tribulation really did lie with this little demon child.

He was just trying to think of some other way to get near the child when he suddenly saw the small demon grip the edge of the sofa and shakily stand up.

The wind demon paused, his gaze fixed on the child. The little one was obviously struggling. His hand clenched tightly around the edge of the sofa, and then he unsteadily took two steps forward.

In the next second, the child lost his balance and pitched straight toward the floor—

Wind demon: !
