What money?
Why did this man—or rather, this man’s boss—want to give him money?
Still dazed, Chi Junyan saw the driver standing motionless and raised his head to glance curiously into the car.
The windows were covered in one-way film, so he could see nothing. He instinctively tried to use his mental power to investigate, but a sharp pain stabbed through the depths of his mind. The mental probe he had just formed immediately dispersed into nothingness.
He could not help clutching his head and groaning.
Only after a long while did he stagger to his feet. Realizing that he was in the middle of the road and blocking traffic, he slowly made his way toward the curb.
The driver froze. Seeing that Chi Junyan truly did not seem inclined to seize this chance to extort them, he followed and asked, “You really don’t want it?”
Once this opportunity was gone, there would not be another.
Their boss was only offering money to make him leave because he had urgent business and did not want to waste time. People who threw themselves in front of the car with malicious intentions were not normally lucky enough to be paid off.
If they had someone backing them, both they and their backer would be dealt with once the investigation was complete. If they had no backer, they would receive a free seven-day stay at the police station.
The driver returned to the car in disappointment. “President Shao, he didn’t take the money.”
Shao Siyan acknowledged him with a nasal grunt. He did not want money, nor had he tried to approach the car. He had done all that merely to delay Shao Siyan by a few minutes. What was the point?
The corners of his mouth sank lower, and a visibly oppressive air radiated from his entire body.
For fear of another accident, the driver proceeded extremely slowly. This made Shao Siyan’s expression grow even darker and more inscrutable.
Even after his business was finished, Shao Siyan still looked displeased. The slight easing in his expression nevertheless allowed both driver and secretary to breathe quiet sighs of relief. At least he was no longer as frightening as before.
Shao Siyan had not expected to encounter the man who had tried to scam him again.
This time, the man was even closer to the place where Shao Siyan had conducted his business.
So he had followed him all the way here.
Shao Siyan’s expression, which had only just eased, turned uglier than ever.
…
His final memory was of being abruptly engulfed by the scorching blast of an explosion.
Even with double-S-rank mental power and perception, an explosion like that would have vaporized his body in an instant.
Only a supernatural force could explain his survival.
Perhaps it could explain everything else too—such as why his mental power had charged outward like a beast released from its cage, impossible to pull back.
He was fortunate simply to be alive. Unfortunately, his identification and currency were useless here, while his terminal had become nothing more than a lump of metal with no functions at all.
At least the language was the same, allowing him to learn quite a lot about this world.
But he had gone too long without food or proper rest, and his condition was extremely poor.
He had come here because the job did not require identification. Who could have imagined that, after a simple interview, they would demand a two-thousand-yuan deposit?
