Book Synopsis:

On the day Jiang Han transmigrated to the Western Fantasy Continent, the human race was holding a talent awakening ceremony.

Some awakened body enhancement and aspired to become swordsmen; some awakened elemental abilities and donned the robes of mages…

And Jiang Han awakened a Cub-Raising APP.

The magic academy students laughed loudly: A waste ability that appears once in ten thousand years!

Jiang Han said seriously: You guys don’t understand how addictive this game is.

While others gathered materials to study alchemy, Jiang Han picked up needle and thread to sew toys for his eldest cub;

While others practiced sword and magic against raging wild bulls, Jiang Han squeezed a can of milk to feed his second cub;

While others stayed up all night memorizing magic theory, Jiang Han tucked in his third cub who was afraid of the cold…

The cubs were pitiful and well-behaved, and Jiang Han cared for them, treating them like electronic pets.

Until during the magic academy’s trial, a massive creature descended from the sky and crushed a high-tier magic beast that the students were battling with one claw.

“No, impossible, how could a giant dragon appear here!?”

Jiang Han: …Aren’t they supposed to be electronic pets?

The rumored exceptionally brutal dragon clan leader lowered its head, pushing a toy smaller than its fingernail toward Jiang Han:

“Roar—” Dragon wants a new one!

*

For over a thousand years, the eight races of the continent had been in constant conflict.

Recently, however, subtle changes appeared in the situation.

The missing elf princess and the mysterious rebellious dwarf called each other sisters;

The last necromancer of the demon race and the aloof ice wolf beastman were sworn brothers;

The human who ascended to the throne through cruel means led his army to rescue the genius of the merfolk race in danger…

The races were panicked: What exactly connected the top figures of every race?

Jiang Han tapped a few times on the Cub-Raising APP’s new function and wondered:

What use is this suddenly appearing “Cubs, Work Together!” feature?

Chapter 1

“Teacher Jiang, I’ve come to pick up Dudu!”

In the daycare center, a handsome young man led a child out to greet them: “Dudu’s mom, hello.”

Dudu’s mom rubbed the child’s head: “Dudu, did you have fun today?”

“So much fun! I played pretend games with Teacher Jiang. I was a dragon knight, and he was a mage. We went on adventures together!”

Jiang Han smiled and agreed: “Yes, Dudu is a very brave dragon knight.”

Jiang Han, the most popular teacher at the daycare center.

From supervising students doing homework to caring for infants, no matter the age or personality of the child, he could handle them well.

“Teacher Jiang, if it weren’t for you, I really don’t know what I would have done!”

Dudu’s mom said gratefully: “Dudu has such a rich imagination but was unwilling to open up to others. Before meeting you, Dudu absolutely refused to come to the daycare center.”

She handed Jiang Han a pennant: “You are the person I’ve met who is best at raising cubs!”

On the pennant, eight golden characters stood out most prominently—”Cub-Raising Expert, Diligent, Wise, and Sincere.”

“…Thank you.” Jiang Han said embarrassedly, “This is too much.”

“I’m actually being conservative. All the parents praise Teacher Jiang as the person in the whole world who is best at raising cubs!”

Jiang Han stared at the words on the pennant, and suddenly his vision blurred.

“Teacher Jiang.”

‘Jiang Han.’

Jiang Han felt dizzy.

“Teacher Jiang, are you okay?”

‘Jiang Han?’

The two voices by his ears seemed near and far. Jiang Han wanted to open his mouth to answer, but his consciousness sank into a blur.

“Jiang Han!”

“Hm?” Jiang Han suddenly opened his eyes.

“What do you mean ‘hm’? You should answer ‘Here.’”

Scattered laughter rose around him. Jiang Han looked around—students in strange uniforms were all looking at him.

On the platform ahead, a teacher in long robes held a roster, looking displeased:

“Hurry up and answer!”

“…Here.”

Jiang Han’s gaze stuck to that teacher’s clothing, his expression dazed:

That person’s outer robe—why did it look like the mage robes Dudu described?

Not only did this one person match Dudu’s “fantasy world,” but on the platform there were also someone carrying an iron sword, someone with a mechanical prosthetic limb flicking a raven-feather cloak, someone holding ancient magic books…

“Excuse me—”

Jiang Han patted the student beside him: “Are those people on the platform playing a role-playing game?”

“They are teachers of the Magic Academy, respectively teaching magic, swordsmanship, alchemy, and magic theory.”

“Oh.” Jiang Han exclaimed, “Their cosplay is really convincing!”

The other person frowned: “I didn’t expect that besides looking strange, your brain is also abnormal.”

As if afraid of catching the “foolish” aura, the student stepped away and stopped paying attention to him.

Looks strange?

Jiang Han only then realized that except for him, everyone had standard “Western features.”

Deep eye sockets, high nose bridges.

“I got dizzy for a moment, and then I went abroad?” Jiang Han touched his own face, an ominous premonition rising.

“Welcome, all new students, to the Magic Academy!

Under the blessing of the gods, we humans have various talents hidden within our bodies. I will assign different courses based on the abilities you awaken.

The talent awakening ceremony begins now.”

With that, the teacher in the mage robe uttered a string of obscure words.

“Rumble—”

Following the incantation, a cylindrical halo rose from the platform, with streams of various colors slowly swimming within it.

Jiang Han’s eyes widened.

He confirmed again and again—there was no electronic screen, projector, or anything of the sort on the platform.

The scene before him had nothing to do with science.

“Finally seeing the talent awakening magic array with my own eyes, I’m so excited!”

“I hope I’m chosen by elemental power and become a great mage like Teacher Hall.”

“Awakening body enhancement would be good too. Teacher Yuna’s swordsmanship is so cool!”

Listening to the students’ discussions, Jiang Han’s hands trembled as he took out a piece of paper from his pocket.

Jiang Han had never seen the gilded text on the paper before, but strangely, he could read it, as if someone had implanted a mysterious chip in his brain.

“Admission Invitation:

You have reached the age to awaken your talent. Please come to the Magic Academy of the Norris Kingdom on [date] of the Western Fantasy Continent Calendar Year 1025 to participate in the talent awakening ceremony.”

Western Fantasy Continent? Norris Kingdom? Magic Academy?

He had transmigrated!?

Jiang Han raised his hand. The mole on his wrist and the familiar slender fingers undoubtedly proved that this was his own body.

“Next group of students, come up and line up. Pete, Lucy, Nicole… Jiang Han.”

When reading “Jiang Han,” the magic teacher Hall clearly paused for a few seconds, as if deliberating over the unusual pronunciation of this name.

After the students lined up on the platform, Hall pointed to the cylindrical halo:

“Stand in the center of the magic array, hold your breath, and focus. Feel the power surging within your body.”

“I understand.” The first student nervously stepped into the magic array.

The magic array emitted a hum like a broken harp string. Several colored halos accelerated their rotation, finally merging into one, converging into black.

“Congratulations, you have awakened body enhancement. Starting tomorrow, join the swordsman course.”

The student felt his instantly strengthened muscles and said excitedly: “Thank you, teacher!”

The next student’s magic array turned blue.

“Congratulations, you have awakened water elemental power. Tomorrow, report to the magic theory course.”

“Thank you, teacher!”

Jiang Han watched that student directly spurt water from his fingers, and his worldview suffered its umpteenth shock.

He stood frozen in place, struggling to digest all of this.

“Hey, what talent do you think you’ll awaken?”

The red-haired boy in front of Jiang Han in line poked him with his elbow.

Jiang Han’s expression was complicated: “I haven’t thought about it.”

“Really? Everyone in the human race has been looking forward to their talent since childhood, to become a powerful adventurer in the future and leave a legend on the Western Fantasy Continent.”

“I don’t have such grand ideals.” I just want to raise cubs in peace.

“You’re really a strange person.” The boy flicked his red curly hair, “But actually, I’m the same. I never worried about what talent I would awaken.”

“?”

“No matter whether I become a swordsman or a mage, my family can buy me the highest-grade sword or magic staff. Even if it’s an alchemy talent, the family can provide enough materials.”

A pay-to-win player.

Jiang Han understood, and glanced at the name tag on the red-haired boy’s chest—

Nicole Carter

The Carter family should be one of the noble families of the Norris Kingdom.

“If I could awaken a special talent, that would be even better! I want to be the most eye-catching among this year’s new students!” Nicole said wistfully.

“Next, Nicole.”

When it was Nicole’s turn, the teachers all looked up and cast attentive gazes toward him.

Noble bloodline—the possibility of awakening a special talent was relatively high.

Sure enough, when Nicole stepped into the magic array, the magic particles emitted a radiance more dazzling than other students’, revealing a chaotic mixed color.

Magic teacher Hall’s eyes lit up: “Congratulations, you have awakened a special talent—beast taming ability!”

The students below erupted:

“Heavens, it’s been many years since a human awakened a beast taming talent!”

“I remember the last human with a beast taming talent was immediately recruited by a famous adventure group after graduating from the Magic Academy. Their future was limitless.”

“So envious…”

Hall patted Nicole’s shoulder: “You don’t need to take basic courses. Tomorrow, come find me directly. I will teach you personally.”

“Thank you, teacher!”

Nicole’s chin was raised like a peacock’s. He enjoyed everyone’s attention and brushed past Jiang Han.

“Congratulations!” Jiang Han smiled.

Nicole’s mouth nearly stretched to his ears: “I’m about to become the strongest of this year’s batch. When the time comes, I’ll look out for you.”

“Next, Jiang Han.”

When Jiang Han approached the magic array, no one paid attention.

The students were immersed in envy of Nicole, and the teachers were whispering about how to cultivate a beast taming talent. The platform and below were full of murmurs.

This actually made Jiang Han more at ease.

He stood in the center of the magic array on his own and concentrated.

No one noticed that the magic particles around him quietly paused for a moment, then subtly trembled.

Jiang Han muttered to himself: “Hold your breath, focus… Feel the power surging within your body… Power…”

[Cub-Raising APP, awakened.]

“?” Jiang Han rubbed his ears, “Who’s talking?”

An icy tone without any fluctuation sounded directly from his mind:

[Please complete the cub-raising tasks in the APP. Success will earn rewards; otherwise, you will be punished.]

[Cub-Raising APP, officially activated.]

“Boom!”

The magic array made a sound of being overwhelmed and damaged. After a loud noise, magic particles exploded in all directions.

“Not good!” Magic teacher Hall was shocked, “Jiang Han? Jiang Han!?”

“Here, here, here!”

Jiang Han raised his hand in response, his unharmed figure emerging from the center of the explosion.

The sudden explosion silenced all discussion.

Everyone’s attention was drawn over, looking at him in shock and uncertainty.

How could someone awakening a talent blow up the magic array?

Jiang Han patted the dust off his clothes: “Teacher, what ability did I awaken?”

Hall’s mouth twitched: “I was just about to ask that. What did you awaken?”

“Uh, a Cub-Raising APP?”

Hall’s expression became even more confused.

Jiang Han tried to describe it: “A game where you can raise cubs. I heard completing tasks gives rewards.”

“That… can count as a special talent.” Hall turned to look at the other teachers, uncertainly, “Have you heard of this kind of talent?”

The group all shook their heads in unison.

“Pfft haha!”

The students below laughed back and forth:

“To actually awaken a game—a waste ability that appears once in ten thousand years!”

“What do you do when you encounter a magic beast? Open the game and invite the magic beast to play together? Hahaha!”

“Laughing myself to death. Made such a big scene, thought it was something impressive.”

The laughter surged toward Jiang Han like a tide, but the person in question was neither ashamed nor annoyed.

Raising cubs was Jiang Han’s old specialty. Compared to the unfamiliar elemental powers, he was more willing to accept this “waste talent.”

He spoke calmly: “Teacher, which course do I report to tomorrow?”

“Uh.” The teachers looked at each other.

“He doesn’t have elemental power. He shouldn’t study magic theory. Follow Yuna to learn swordsmanship?”

“No, a human without body enhancement can’t even lift an iron sword. Hall, you’ve taught many students with special talents. You take him?”

“I’ve never taught one this special!”

Jiang Han was like a ball, kicked around by several people, unable to find a place to land.

On a continent where the strong were revered, no one was willing to spend time cultivating a “waste talent.”

Jiang Han sighed softly.

[Beep beep!]

Dragon Island

“What’s wrong with this egg? I can’t sense any life fluctuation from it.”

“Don’t touch it!” Another giant dragon knocked away the approaching claw, “It’s the child of the former leader. Even before hatching, it might burst out with tremendous energy.”

The dragon who didn’t know the details awkwardly withdrew its claw: “The former leader and the former leader’s wife passed away a thousand years ago. This egg has been dormant for a thousand years?”

“That’s right. Dragon race cubs only hatch after feeling the safety brought by their parents, but its parents are both…”

The two dragons’ eyes turned mournful as they looked at the dragon egg.

They covered the egg with a thick layer of dry grass, trying to use this method to let the cub feel warmth.

But they knew clearly that doing so was futile.

A dragon egg that lost its parents could never hatch.

The dragons flew out of the cave where the egg was. The wind from their wings drowned out the faint sound beneath the dry grass—

“Crack.”

Rong Xiaoyan threw down a signing contract: Debut now!

Chapter 2

Jiang Han was someone who adapted to circumstances.

He had lived in an orphanage for as long as he could remember. When he was still tiny himself, he learned to care for the younger brothers and sisters in the orphanage.

After starting work, his daycare salary minus the student loans he needed to repay left him with almost nothing.

He kept looking for cheaper rentals, moving many times.

What he was best at was finding a way to survive on his own.

“Teacher.”

Seeing that the teachers had been arguing for a long time without reaching a conclusion, Jiang Han took the initiative to break the deadlock: “Is there no course I can join?”

Hall and the other teachers exchanged glances. He smoothed his robe symbolizing the rank of a magic master:

“We can’t find one suitable for you.”

He said it as tactfully as possible, but the students below could all hear the implied meaning—

Your broken talent—don’t come to the Magic Academy anymore. Drop out.

Jiang Han’s fingers touched the pocket of his clothes, and through the fabric, he felt the shape of the invitation.

Besides the admission invitation, the invitation also had a dormitory number written on it, with a note: “Magic Academy students are provided with free food and lodging during their studies.”

If he missed this opportunity, a newly arrived Earthling in the magic world would most likely struggle for survival.

He had to stay!

“Since you can’t find a course suitable for me…”

Jiang Han paused for a second: “Then I won’t trouble the teachers. I’ll choose for myself.”

Hall froze: “What?”

“Please give me the choice. I can decide which course to study on my own.”

“Too absurd!” Hall took a deep breath, “Since the Magic Academy was founded, there has never been a special case of a student choosing their own courses.”

“You also said you’ve never seen such a special talent. Special circumstances require special handling, please!”

Jiang Han’s pupils were bright and clear, and when he gazed at the other, they were like two pools of melted amber—sincere and earnest.

Hall moved his mouth, but no sound came from his throat.

“Outrageous! You’re a student who hasn’t even reached low-tier mage level, how dare you speak with such an attitude!?”

The teacher beside Hall frowned and glared at Jiang Han.

“Wait.” Hall blocked the other teacher with one arm.

His facial muscles twitched slightly, as if engaged in a fierce psychological struggle. After a long while, he slowly exhaled:

“I agree.”

Hall recited a magic incantation. Wind elemental power carried a piece of paper, drifting and floating, suspended before Jiang Han.

“Magic Academy Course Schedule”

“On it are the class times and locations for all courses. You may freely choose.

But the trials required by the academy, you must participate in, and the assessment standards are the same as other students.”

“Thank you!”

Under the students’ disbelieving gazes, Jiang Han held the “Magic Academy Course Schedule” and left the talent awakening ceremony.

“Hall!” The alchemy teacher’s mechanical prosthetic limb creaked, “What were you thinking? A magic master compromising with a newly enrolled student—aren’t you afraid of being laughed at if word gets out?”

“That’s right, I’m a magic master, and he hasn’t even entered the threshold of the magic world.”

“Then why did you…”

Hall interrupted the others: “But he looked me straight in the eye.”

The teachers were startled: “Indeed, he showed no fear at all.”

When two humans meet, the first impression they give each other is strength.

The weaker party in magic or swordsmanship can sense the stronger party’s aura and instinctively reveres them.

Hall gathered his magic robe: “Even high-tier mages, when they see the magic master emblem on my robe, lower their heads and don’t dare speak loudly. That student was different.”

The swordsmanship teacher gripped his sword hilt: “That’s right, he even craned his neck to observe my ‘Giant Hel Sword.’ Other students don’t dare look at it more than once.”

“Jiang Han…”

Hall stared at the two characters “Jiang Han” on the roster, lost in thought: “He might be hiding his strength.”

*

Jiang Han was terribly wronged.

What magic master emblem, what Giant Hel Sword—he had never heard of them.

He just wanted to find a quiet place to sort out his situation.

Following the dormitory number written on the “Admission Invitation,” he found the room. It wasn’t large, just enough for one person.

[Beep beep!]

[The first cub has been unlocked. Please open the APP to check.]

The notification tone rang incessantly in his mind. Jiang Han pressed his temples and said with a headache:

“I don’t have a phone, I can’t download it.”

[Please close your eyes and summon the APP panel.]

Jiang Han did so. In the darkness behind his closed eyes, he “saw” an APP main page similar to a mini-game.

Several buttons were arranged on the interface, but most were in an “unlocked” state and unusable.

The only lit button—”Accompany Cub.”

“The Cub-Raising APP is in my head?” Jiang Han said in a low voice, “Could this APP be the reason for my transmigration?”

[Beep beep!]

[Please complete the cub-raising tasks in the APP. Success will earn rewards; otherwise, you will be punished.]

“What is the punishment?”

[Death.]

Jiang Han laughed in anger: “You mean, I was dragged into this world for no reason and forcibly bound to an APP that kills me if I fail?”

[It is not you who dies. If cub-raising fails, the cub dies.]

Jiang Han’s breath caught for a moment.

“Then if I don’t activate the APP?”

[The cub will also die.]

These words became invisible hands, clenching Jiang Han’s heart.

He gritted his teeth and clicked “Accompany Cub” on the APP main page.

A dizziness similar to transmigration hit him. In a flash, he was already in a vast, illusory space.

[Welcome to the Cub-Raising APP. You are rewarded with a beginner’s gift pack—

Obtained BUFF “Cute Cubs Love Me”

Beneficial effect: Innate attraction to young cubs.]

[The first cub has been unlocked. Begin raising!]

Like an indicator above an NPC in a game, an arrow appeared in the air, pointing at a pile of dry grass on the ground.

“Is it hiding here?” Jiang Han crouched, fingers probing toward the dry grass.

What age cub would it be?

If it were a baby, he would need to quickly find a way to earn money to buy milk for the cub; if older, he could attend magic theory classes while teaching the cub…

Jiang Han guessed as he parted the dry grass—

It was a dark brown egg.

“…” His mental preparation was still insufficient.

“This counts as a cub too?” Jiang Han didn’t even dare touch the egg. “I don’t know how to hatch eggs!”

[The eggshell is extremely hard. Please feel free to try. Task “Raise the Eldest Cub” begins.]

After saying this, the system voice disappeared. No matter how Jiang Han called, it didn’t appear again.

“Too far beyond my capabilities…”

Jiang Han’s brows gathered with worry. He carefully extended his hand and touched the egg.

“Hello, cub. When will you come out?”

As expected, the egg was silent, without a trace of response.

“My name is Jiang Han. I’ll come to keep you company often in the future.” Jiang Han’s palm pressed against the eggshell, gently stroking.

The eggshell was not smooth. Patterns like a certain kind of scales were arranged on it, emitting a faint purple glow.

The faint light flickered with Jiang Han’s breathing rhythm, as if waiting for a signal to be awakened.

“Are you a bird cub? So big—an ostrich egg?” Jiang Han hesitated. “But the eggshell is like a lizard’s skin.”

Sensing the eggshell’s temperature was on the low side, he sat on the dry grass and held the egg in his arms:

“This is my first time raising a small animal cub. Let’s work hard together and survive.”

The egg tilted slightly, leaning closer to Jiang Han, as if using a clumsy way to act cute.

“!” Jiang Han was stunned, then chuckled and kissed the eggshell.

…

To raise the cub well, Jiang Han had to figure out what kind of cub lived inside the egg.

Early the next morning, he picked a class from the “Magic Academy Course Schedule” and walked toward the classroom.

“Look, isn’t that the guy who blew up the awakening ceremony’s magic array?”

“That’s right, his appearance is too recognizable.”

“I heard he awakened a waste talent, got so angry he directly destroyed the magic array, and even publicly talked back to Teacher Hall.”

“?” Jiang Han’s mouth twitched.

That’s way too exaggerated.

The students grew more excited as they talked, not even controlling their volume:

“Acting so arrogantly right after enrolling—his family background must be extraordinary?”

“Impossible, there’s no noble with his surname in the kingdom.”

“Could it be that he has real strength backing him up, giving him the confidence to challenge Teacher Hall?”

As soon as this was said, the students’ gazes toward Jiang Han, which had been recklessly sizing him up, restrained themselves. They lowered their voices:

“Let’s see which class he goes to first.”

“Shh, don’t let him hear.”

Under their uncertain observation, Jiang Han walked past the magic, swordsmanship, and alchemy classrooms in turn, and pushed open the door to the “Western Fantasy Continent General Knowledge” classroom.

“Haha! There’s actually a new student relegated to general knowledge class!”

“If I had awakened that kind of trash talent, I wouldn’t have the face to stay at the Magic Academy. I’d just find a blacksmith shop to help forge iron!”

“Bang.”

Jiang Han closed the classroom door, shutting out the gossip.

Compared to the packed magic classroom, this classroom had very few students—only two or three scattered in the last few rows.

General knowledge class: a course teaching the history and culture of the various races of the Western Fantasy Continent, also called by students the “chicken ribs course” (useless course).

This knowledge couldn’t help strength improve in the slightest. If encountering a crisis, no one expected to win against an opponent through general knowledge.

The students who came to this class were mostly those nearing graduation who couldn’t pass the assessments. Their talents were weak, and going to the trials meant only death, so they could only muddle through to graduation in general knowledge class.

The Magic Academy universally acknowledged:

Students who attend general knowledge class ≈ trash

New students who attend general knowledge class right after enrolling = trash

“Hello, teacher!” Jiang Han saw the teacher on the platform and greeted him properly.

The general knowledge teacher wore a brass-framed prism over one eye and glanced at him lazily: “What’s your name? You’re not on the course roster.”

“My name is Jiang Han.” Jiang Han showed the name tag on his uniform. “Teacher Hall agreed to let me choose my own courses.”

“So you’re Jiang Han. The other teachers have been talking about you since yesterday. I didn’t expect you to come to this class! Gah-ha—gah-ha—”

The teacher’s laugh was like a rusty hinge being forcibly dragged—harsh and abrupt.

A student in the last row slammed the table and stood up: “Teacher Eugene! Too loud!”

Eugene’s laughter stopped abruptly. He said gloomily: “I’m not laughing anymore.”

The student who had his sleep disturbed lay back on the table and continued sleeping.

Eugene seemed accustomed to this scene. He added “Jiang Han” to the course roster and waved at Jiang Han: “Find a seat anywhere.”

Jiang Han sat in the first row.

“?” Eugene had been leaning lazily against the chair back, but now he sat up straight instantly.

The students in general knowledge class were all muddling through to graduation—either skipping class or coming to the classroom to catch up on sleep. Eugene was seeing a student sitting in the front row for the first time.

And as Jiang Han took out paper and pen and cast a look of seeking knowledge, Eugene’s pupils became somewhat unfocused.

It’s a student!

A student who can be taught!!!

Eugene perked up and adjusted his brass frame: “Welcome to ‘Western Fantasy Continent General Knowledge.’ Today, would you like to hear about the conflicts among the eight races, or the history of the Norris Kingdom? Ask any questions you like!”

“Teacher, have you seen this pattern before?”

Jiang Han handed over a paper with the same pattern as the APP eggshell drawn on it.

Eugene recognized it at a glance: “Dragon race scales.”

“…Dragon?” Jiang Han stammered, “Th-then, do dragon eggshells also have scales?”

“That’s right!” Eugene grew more excited. “It seems you’ve previewed the knowledge about the dragon race. Student Jiang Han is interested in the dragon race? Gah-ha—”

“.”

If I told you I’m raising a dragon egg, would you believe me?
