The Background Extra Got Rich After His Thoughts Were Read
Author: Tangmei
Synopsis
Lin Zhiqiao bonded with a System whose starter skill was called the “Gossip Mystery Box.”
Good news: as long as he kept opening Mystery Boxes and eating gossip, he could earn generous cash rewards!
Bad news: Mystery Box Energy recovered at a limited rate. On days with no gossip to eat, life was unbearably lonely—and his wallet went hungry.
Good news: other people’s Favorability could be converted into Mystery Box Energy, speeding up his gossip-eating, money-making progress.
Bad news: in this world where cheat abilities were everywhere, Lin Zhiqiao was nothing more than an utterly unremarkable background extra.
Trying to break through among Systems for “heartthrobs,” “everyone’s darlings,” “overpowered male leads,” and the like was basically a pipe dream.
But—
Lin Zhiqiao: For the sake of getting rich! Even if I die trying, I still have to try! [clenched_fist.jpg]
What he didn’t know was that an unknown bug had occurred when the System bonded with him, giving people in the entertainment industry a chance of hearing Lin Zhiqiao’s thoughts.
*
At the set of a certain variety show, Lin Zhiqiao looked at a currently popular singer:
【You think you’ve met true love, but you’re actually just a substitute for a scumbag. He doesn’t have you in his heart at all. Later he’ll abuse you physically and emotionally, and you’ll run away pregnant… His white moonlight is coming back to the country in a few days. So tragic, so tragic. That scumbag isn’t worth it!】
Several days later, the popular singer came to Lin Zhiqiao looking refreshed and radiant, then invited him in a friendly tone, “Zhiqiao, I still haven’t found the right partner for the MV for my new album. Want to give it a try?”
System: Popular Singer Favorability +100! Congratulations, Host, you have received a bonus of 660,000!!
Lin Zhiqiao, who hadn’t even figured out how to raise the other man’s Favorability yet: ? Did a pie just fall from the sky?
While auditioning for a small supporting role, Lin Zhiqiao stared at a certain popular young star standing beside the director:
【Holy crap, massive gossip! He markets himself as single and innocent, but he’s secretly married with three kids and addicted to domestic violence. His wife is collecting evidence and preparing to tear things open and take him to court. Career collapse incoming! Anyone who works with him again is basically volunteering to be a sucker!】
Soon afterward, the director called Lin Zhiqiao. “That little supporting role isn’t right for you. I think the second male lead suits you much better. Come audition tomorrow.”
System: Director Favorability +100! Bonus of 880,000 has been deposited!!
Lin Zhiqiao, who still hadn’t had time to do anything: ? Are all the big shots in show business this friendly?
There was also gossip about “real and fake young masters” in a wealthy family, an idol trainee who was a “player,” a famous actor’s “time-management” scandal…
Lin Zhiqiao feasted on gossip to his heart’s content, and the assets in his little treasury grew and grew!
Later, when everyone was interviewed by reporters—
Popular Singer & A Certain Director & Other Entertainment-Industry Big Shots: “Without Lin Zhiqiao, I wouldn’t be where I am today. I’m very grateful to him.”
Lin “Entertainment Industry’s Group Pet” “Invisible Tycoon” Zhiqiao: “You probably won’t believe me when I say this, but at the beginning, I really only wanted to eat some gossip.”
