In truth, the original Qi Jun did not own many things. Aside from essential clothes, there were only ordinary necessities of daily life. Anything he was allowed to take, he refused to waste. At a time like this, so-called pride was not especially useful. Living alone required money everywhere. The only fortunate thing was that in this world, internet access cost nothing, phone service cost nothing, tuition cost nothing, and public transportation cost nothing. If he lived frugally, then with the one hundred thousand points Father Qi had promised him, he ought to be able to last for several years.
Qi Jun did not look for a hotel. Instead, he boarded a train directly for the capital. He needed to report to the university as quickly as possible so he could choose the cheapest dormitory available. Ever since he first thought about leaving the Qi household, he had searched online for information about the dormitories at the university he had been admitted to. In this era, dormitories resembled small private residential communities, with every unit having its own entrance. The better ones were villas, the next level consisted of split-level apartments, and even the worst were standard one-bedroom residences with a living room, kitchen, and bathroom. Aside from utilities and rent, there were no other costs. The school cafeteria sold inexpensive food, or students could buy ingredients at the large campus supermarket and cook for themselves. To Qi Jun, that university was practically a miniature city, and he genuinely looked forward to it. The Cultivation Technology Department he had been admitted to was also a decent field. Compared with some of the more advanced technical disciplines, he thought he had a better chance of coping with it. At least the knowledge stored in the original Qi Jun’s memories still existed in his mind. He simply was not sure whether his own brain would be good enough in the future…
The train was extremely fast. Although Lin City, where the Qi family lived, was more than fifteen hundred kilometers from the capital, Qi Jun boarded a little after nine in the morning and arrived at eleven-thirty. Public transportation was not all that much faster than in his previous life. However, the train traveled underground through certain sections of the route, which made him feel extremely oppressed. The onboard moving display showed views from the surface. Those strange plants only deepened his realization that the place he now lived was unimaginably distant from his former life.
Looking at the prosperous metropolis and the crowded streets, Qi Jun felt a strange distortion of time and space. Towering buildings constructed in all kinds of retro architectural styles only intensified the sensation. But none of that was what he should be thinking about right now. He needed to take a bus to the university immediately and try to secure a dormitory before evening.
Capital University was one of the Hua Nation’s highest institutions of learning. It was divided into three separate campuses.
The Central Campus was where the finest students in the country studied. Whether powerful beastmen, beastmen, sub-beastmen, or pure humans, anyone who studied there was exceptionally outstanding. Of course, besides students with top scores, there were also members of famous and powerful families. One could say that anyone on the Central Campus either had extraordinary grades or was someone you could not afford to offend.
The East Campus housed the Combat Academy, primarily the Mecha Department and Ground Combat Department. The overwhelming majority of students there were powerful beastmen and beastmen. The Central Campus also had combat programs, but those trained command-level personnel. Graduates of the East Campus were more often noncommissioned officers and ordinary soldiers. Even so, soldiers who came out of Capital University’s East Campus were highly valued by the military.
The West Campus was the Comprehensive Sciences Campus. Its disciplines were far more miscellaneous. Counting everything, there were more than a hundred major departments, with even more specialized subdivisions beneath them. Qi Jun had been admitted to the Cultivation Technology Department, which had the largest enrollment of all. After all, in the beast world, people capable of growing high-quality cultivated food were valued, and this career path was easier than many others.
In truth, simply being admitted to Capital University already proved that the original Qi Jun’s intelligence was perfectly fine. As for whatever testing had labeled his mental power weak, Qi Jun still did not understand it. In his eyes, the original Qi Jun had already been astonishingly capable.
Using the navigation function on his phone, Qi Jun found the West Campus without trouble. The moment he saw the freshman reception sign at the gate, he relaxed. After all, he had arrived absurdly early.
