Author: Zhu Liuliu
Synopsis:
Ye Li transmigrated into the Great Xia Dynasty—only to find himself inhabiting the body of a universally despised, gluttonous and lazy husband.
The Jiang family was destitute. His husband, Jiang Ji, studied at the county academy, leaving only Ye Li at home with two burdensome younger brothers-in-law: Jiang Mai and Jiang Ya. When Ye Li arrived in this world, the original owner of the body had just been caught by the village head trying to lure five-year-old Jiang Ya to the county town to sell him.
Ye Li: “…”
With a dry laugh, he patted Jiang Ya’s little head. “I was only taking Ya-ge to town to buy something tasty.”
Naturally, no one believed him.
To avoid being dragged to the ancestral hall for punishment, Ye Li had no choice but to carve out a livelihood through food and business.
At month’s end, when the academy went on break, Jiang Ji rushed home in a panic, afraid Ye Li had abused his two younger brothers. Instead, he was greeted by the sight of Jiang Mai and Jiang Ya gnawing happily on large bones.
Jiang Ji’s brows knitted tightly. What was that fool plotting now?
But Ye Li’s eyes sparkled.
Wow. My bargain-bin husband is seriously handsome.
That night, as usual, Jiang Ji went to sleep in his younger brothers’ room. Ye Li carried a kerosene lamp over and knocked on the door.
“Husband, it’s time to return to our room.”
Jiang Ji: “…”
On their wedding night, Ye Li had been the one to drive him out. He intended to see what trick Ye Li was up to this time.
Ye Li felt utterly wronged. What trick could there be? His husband’s face suited his tastes perfectly—of course they should consummate the marriage.
Jiang Ji was deeply unwilling. This fool dared covet his body!
Ye Li had no choice but to coax him. “Just think of it as going through the motions—resentful love.”
“…”
Something was off.
The fool was very off.
After one night together, Jiang Ji’s resolve softened—and so did his heart.
He began observing this husband of his in secret. Three days later, when he returned to the academy, he found he could no longer drive Ye Li’s image from his mind.
Later, Jiang Ji passed the provincial examination and became a juren. Ye Li, naturally, became the juren’s husband.
Many people came bearing gifts, hoping to present the esteemed scholar with concubines. Ye Li picked up the chest containing the family’s land and shop deeds. Pretending resentment for so long had turned into real feelings—if that scoundrel dared accept another, he would strip him of everything and bring in a new husband instead!
Jiang Ji quickly gathered him into his arms, abandoning all pride.
“Li-li. In this lifetime and the next, only you.”
